Welcome to Mrs. Gathers' 2nd grade OLC.

Mrs. Gathers OLC
  Dear Folks!
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year and to my OLC.  Through this weekly communication, I will try to provide you with pertinent information and dates of upcoming events, as well as, weekly class skills/topics. One notable change for this year is our "specials" (Tech, Art, P.E., and Music) schedule -
all 2nd grade "specials" will take place on the same day, C-day. I am looking forward to a delightful year with your child.  You may contact me at melaniegathers@bwls.net, through handwritten notes, or call the office.
*Please remember to include your child's name and  teacher's name on the envelope when sending in lunch money.

Volunteering in Big Walnut Local Schools

Our schools are extremely fortunate to have the support of our parent and community volunteers.  While we are continually grateful for this support, we are also aware of the potential concerns that can arise when volunteers are working directly with students.  One of the recent priorities established by our District Safety Committee, which is comprised of law enforcement personnel, first responders, parents, and staff, is that volunteers should have background checks completed to promote safety within our schools.  Each staff member and coach in the district is required to provide initial and ongoing background checks to insure that they are deemed safe for working with our students, so it makes sense to consider a similar requirement for volunteers working with students or who are helping in the building during the school day.

SUPER IMPORTANT: If you are planning on volunteering for our upcoming Spring activities (think Supergames, Field Day, etc.) OR if you would like to volunteer in your kid's classroom, chaperone field trips, etc....

It is quick, easy, costs $5.00 and you only need to reapply every 3 years. Please take the 5 minutes to get it checked off your list!
