BWHS National Art Honor Society Students Install Custom Artwork
Berkshire Township is building its first Community Park. As part of the project, United Way of Delaware County is participating with the installation of a Born Learning Trail. Born Learning Trails are being installed in parks across the nation. The trail is a series of 10 interactive signs that offer fun, active learning activities for young children and their families. It helps parents, caregivers and communities create quality engagement opportunities when out on a stroll or visiting a local playground. On the trail, the artwork is painted on cement by the signs which allow the kids to step into space, learn colors, shapes, numbers, etc. Typically the artwork is simple stencils; at the Berkshire Township Trail, the art has been custom designed by students from the Big Walnut High School National Art Honor Society. Led by teacher Melissa Maxson, the students are “creating” at the site from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Thursday, September 7, 2017, and Friday, September 8, 2017. The trail is located at the Berkshire Township Hall, 1454 Rome Corners Road, Galena, OH 43021. The actual signage for the trail will be installed at a later date as part of a Columbus State Community College Day of Service project. The township will be holding a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting to celebrate the official opening of the Pollinator Garden in our Community Park and the official opening for the Born Learning Trail. That event will be held on Sunday, September 24th from 1-3 p.m.
