Meet the Superintendent
Ryan McLane
Superintendent

Greetings Big Walnut Families,
I am excited to start my fourth year as the superintendent of Big Walnut Local Schools. I hope you are just as excited about the start of the 2026-27 school year.
I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA, but I have lived most of my adult life in Ohio. I graduated from Muskingum University in 1999 and received my master’s degree from Xavier University in 2001. My wife and I have two daughters and have lived in the Big Walnut community for over ten years.
2026-27 will be my 27th year in education, and my core belief hasn’t changed. Kids need to learn AND have fun! If they don’t want to be here, then I know we are fighting a losing battle. I want to work with you and our staff to create an atmosphere where kids want to run into the building faster than they want to run out of it at the end of the day. I believe we can do this while still accomplishing our goal of preparing students when they leave Big Walnut to enlist in the military, enroll in a post-secondary program, or become employed in the workforce, all while inspiring and guiding each student to their maximum potential.
As your superintendent, I am committed to working in partnership with you to ensure the best possible education for your child. If you see me around town, please don't hesitate to say hello (and feel free to give me grief about my Fighting Irish losing to the Buckeyes). If you have any questions or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to me via email or phone.
Yours in Education,
