COVID-19 District Update 3.18.2020

Family Update on Coronavirus/COVID-19 - March 18, 2020

Good Afternoon,

As we continue to adapt to this situation, I want to thank the many community volunteers and our awesome food service crew for packing up food for our families in need.  Yesterday, our cooks helped distribute the food to those families. It was great to see the gratitude as people received their food. Thank you so much to our food service employees, district nurse, and leaders from our Administrative Services Department for the flexibility and the willingness to help our students get what they need during this difficult time.   As of now, we are planning to repeat this process on March 30; we will let you know if anything changes as this situation evolves. In the meantime, if any member of the community is experiencing a shortage of food or other resources, please reach out to Big Walnut Neighborhood Bridges. Visit their site for ways to help, or contact [email protected] if you need support.  Thanks again to our community members for continuing to help each other!

If you haven’t heard, Election Day was pushed back to June 2.  There is still discussion about whether or not it will really be that date, but the emphasis will be on giving folks time to vote absentee.  We know that elections are important to our stability and democracy. While the election is important, we understand that tough decisions are being made and we support our leaders.  The need still exists for our schools, but the more people who vote-- and do so safely-- the better.

Our Board of Education is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Thursday, March 19.  Due to the COVID-19 situation, we will only be allowing essential personnel at the meeting.  All others are invited to join us at 6:30 pm on Facebook Live on our district account. We will also post the video afterwards on our website. If you have any questions or comments for public participation, please email them to [email protected] by 2:00 pm tomorrow.  You may also leave them on Tami’s voicemail at 740.965.3010. Please include your name and address. Thank you for your understanding, and we hope you can join us online! If anything changes that would require us to delay that meeting, we will post that notice on Schoology, our website, and social media.  Please view our agenda here: http://www.bwls.net/EventAttachments/3-19-20-Agenda3.pdf.

Finally, as staff members prepare to teach students remotely, it may become necessary for them to call parents.  We have asked them to use *67 when calling from their personal phones. Please be aware that their numbers will not show on caller I.D., but will show as “private.”

As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher, principal, or to the central office.

Have a great evening,

Angie Hamberg

Superintendent
