Tik Tok Challenges

Dear Big Walnut MS and HS Families,

Over the past couple of weeks, our principals communicated with  families regarding the TikTok “Bathroom Challenge” that was encouraging students to steal and vandalize items in school restrooms. Unfortunately, we continue to see multiple acts of vandalism related to this challenge in both the middle school and the high school.
As disturbing as that challenge was, we have learned of an apparent schedule of planned TikTok challenges, the majority of which are supposed to take place in schools. While our building administrators have already communicated this at a building level, I wanted to send it as well to make sure we didn’t miss anyone, especially as October’s challenge is “Smack a Staff Member on the Backside.” We will not tolerate this type of extremely disrespectful action targeting our staff members.  Some of the other challenges involve touching other students as well.  Please make sure your child knows that touching anyone inappropriately can result in both school discipline and criminal charges. Additionally, for challenges involving the theft and destruction of property, families will be held responsible for the cost of repairs or replacement of any property that is damaged or stolen.
Please find below a copy of this challenge schedule. We are asking all families to talk directly with their students to discourage them from participating. Please also encourage them to notify one of their building administrators if they learn of anyone who has participated or is planning to participate in any of these challenges.  Dealing with these behaviors has been a huge distraction for our principals and assistant principals, who have many other tasks to do that are actually related to learning.  Thank you in advance for partnering with us to stop this type of behavior so we can create a safe, respectful environment in our schools.

Have a great week,
Angie Hamberg
